Richard Burr off of Great British Bake Off has admitted he only signed up for the show because he was chronically, chronically hungover.
Speaking to unofficial Bake Off magazine Radio Times, Richard admitted that his wife’s nagging him to go on the show and bake lovely cake finally reached breaking point on the cusp of a New Year hangover.
“My wife Sarah said I should do it, and because I had such a hangover on New Year's Day I agreed for a bit of peace and quiet,” he said, although not be moving his mouth, instead icing each word in the above quote onto a delicious bun.
“I left Sarah to do the writing,” he added, across a flan. “Next thing I knew I had the production company phoning me up.”
Record breaking four-times-in-a-series Star Baker Richard — a builder by trade — also added that the Bake Off tent often reminded him of a construction site. Okay.
"It was like being on site surrounded by tradesmen,” he said, “only a bit cleaner and with less swearing.” Only a little, though. You should hear Mary Berry when she drops a tray of fondant fancies. Worse than a sailor.
Richard is down to the final four bakers on the show, competing with Luis Troyano, Chetna Makan and Nancy Birtwhistle in the last two episodes of the series.
