This retro roll is a lot easier than it looks. You'll need to add some volume before you start though so build in some oomph with a mousse pre blow dry if you're washing your hair, or a generous squirt of dry shampoo if you're doing it at your desk.

Give a bun a new lease of life by combining it with a big bouff. Get this effect by concentrating your hairdryer nozzle at the roots as you pull the hair up with a round brush. Then backcom at the roots and sides before smoothing over wiht a bristle brush

You've probably bought your frock but have you thought about what you're going to do with your 'do this festive season? We spoke to celeb stylist Andrew Barton about the party looks to nail this xmas

What's the hottest party 'do this season?

"This seasons must have party do is what I like to call the "bouffe" - a 21st century take on the retro bouffant. Inspired by the swinging 60's, it's a low maintenance style that adds height and volume at the crown to make hair look instantly volumised. Taking the silhouette of the classic bouffant, a "bouffe" is all about deconstructing the look and making the aesthetic less rigid and more bouncy and carefree."

What are the easiest up do's to do at your desk with no heat styling? And how do we do them?

"Back brushing your hair is the answer to all your desk to dancefloor party styles. It causes less friction than traditional back combing and instantly transforms any length hair. To create the perfect party up do in minutes, start by back brushing the hair into sections from the front of the head to the back, then down each side. Once you have applied this technique to the roots and mid-section of the hair, smooth over with a bristle brush to finalise the style. Spritz a little of my Supreme Volume Big Hair Lifting Spray to add additional "oomph", then pull hair back into a ponytail, either at the nape of the neck or piled up high on the crown. Finally, twist the end of the ponytail into a bun shape and secure with pins.

" How do you keep your updo in place? Make it last all night?

"As mentioned before, back brushing is your bouffant party saviour and it won't let you down on the dancefloor. Another great technique to keep you up do in place is to use mousse before heat styling your hair. The polymers in the mousse swell the fibre of the hair shaft making it easier to style and holdshape. Apply a liberal amount of the mousse into the palms of your hands and distribute evenly through the hair. This gorgeous product adds texture for styling, giving longer lasting results!"

Which celeb do you think wears the best up do's?

"Like most of the nation, I've been glued to how Cheryl and Mel have worn their hair over the last few weeks on X Factor. I love how Cheryl is a hair chameleon and isn't afraid to try bold, new trends. She has gorgeous bone structure so she can really pull off a slick up do
