If you’re worth an estimated £5million you might splash the cash once in a while – there’s nothing wrong with a good old splurge.

Olly Murs has other ideas and only pays himself a ‘plumber’s wage’ as he’s scared of going bankrupt.

The former X Factor contestant says he doesn’t want to end up like the stars of television show The Big Reunion and wants to have plenty of money in the bank in years to come.

He told the Daily Mirror: “I’ve given myself a salary recently, because I think it’s important. For the first two years I was like, ‘Yeah, I’ll buy that and this. Mum, what do you want? I’ll get it for you.’

“But then you watch shows like The Big Reunion and it opens your eyes to realise that this can all go so quickly, and you’ve got to be wise with your money.

“My worst fear is losing everything. I’ve bought my own house, I’ve got a lovely car, I’ve got brilliant friends and family. If I lost all that it would be devastating and down to my stupidity.”

Well, this all sounds very sensible to us, Olly, and if your mum runs out of requests, send a few gifts our way!
