Mel B’s husband Stephen Belafonte has denied he hit The X Factor judge – after some social media users speculated about her bruised face at last night’s final. Stephen dubbed the remarks as “disgusting” and “untrue”. The film producer took to Twitter this morning to strongly deny rumours and said Mel B’s real fans should “relax”.

The rumour mill went into overdrive last night during The X Factor final when Mel B appeared on stage without her canary yellow diamond ring and what looked like scratches at the tops of her arms. Some viewers flagged on social media that they thought her left eye was puffy and she had a slightly raised cheek.

There was concern Mel wouldn’t be well enough to make the final, as she was rushed to hospital on Thursday night with what some sources were calling a stomach ulcer. While she missed her remaining contestant Andrea Faustini’s exit from the talent show on Saturday night, she rallied enough to make it to the final results show at Wembley Arena.

Host Dermot O’Leary asked Mel how she was doing, and she replied: “I really missed being here but thanks to all the doctors and nurses who took care of me and got me here tonight.”

He then asked if she was feeling better, and she said: “Yes – ish.”

Meanwhile, Mel’s estranged mum Andrea Brown had been tweeting about how worried she was for her daughter throughout yesterday.

“Omg all my tears over last 3 days and there she is missed my staff Xmas party but worth it and I'm still crying #papersgotitwrong,” she tweeted when she saw Mel on the ITV show.

“Having a large glass of wine to celebrate even though I'm still bloody crying feel sooo stupid poor Melanie looks poorly!!”
