He’s known as one of the scariest talent judges on telly but Simon Cowell has proved he’s not all bad by offering his support to a young woman suffering from cancer.

Taking to his Twitter account Cowell tweeted that he’d dipped his hands into his trouser pockets and made a donation to the #HoldAmysHand fund. The dad-of-one told his 11.3million followers, “Amy Watts, a lovely young woman I first met more than 10 years ago needs our support” followed by a link to the website holdamyshand.com.

Amy, a 37-year-old showbiz journalist, was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer last year whilst living in LA. Despite immediately having chemotherapy Amy was told the cancer had spread to her liver. After an operation was cancelled in December, Amy now needs to raise £100,000 for a life-saving operation at a private hospital in Leeds.

The X Factor’s biggest baddy isn’t the only star to get behind Amy. Media big boss Richard Desmond has also pledged a chunk of cash to help, raising the total to more than £30,000.

Amy flew back to the UK – courtesy of Virgin Atlantic – and is now on a mission to raise the remainder with the help of her friends and family.

And the not-so-Mr Nasty Simon Cowell.
