When Broadchurch 2 bowed out earlier this week, at least 8.3 million of us were left with a big old hole in our TV viewing. It took two years for that to return, but one thing that might just get scribed a bit faster is the second series of Happy Valley.

Yes, we have good news for fans of last year's extraordinary series – writer Sally Wainwright is halfway through season two, and says she can't see a reason why this one won't be even better than the original.

Speaking at the BAFTA Guru Screenwriting Masterclass last night, Sally revealed she has already written the first three episodes and they are, in her opinion (which is the one that counts), "really good."

But is she scared of the "curse of Broadchurch" striking? “I can see why it appears not to have gone down as well,” she says. "But I think second series can be better than the first, because you're more confident.” That’s what we want to hear.

Happy Valley, which saw Sarah Lancashire’s Sgt Catherine Cawood get embroiled in a violent kidnapping carried out by the terribly bad (but confusingly hot) Tommy Lee Royce (James Norton) was one of 2014's most talked-about dramas.

We don't know what Sally has in store, or if it will reprise Catherine and Tommy's story, but we know we cannot WAIT to see Sarah Lancashire back in that uniform.
