Where one door shuts, another opens, as your annoying auntie would say to you after you failed your maths GCSE/got dumped.

But actually it’s sometimes true. Downton Abbey is coming to an end after season six – it was confirmed earlier, and we’ve already lined up our season one to five box set to get stuck into tonight.

But executive producer Gareth Neame has softed the blow with the news that A MOVIE OF DOWNTON MIGHT ACTUALLY HAPPEN.

More news!

When asked at the worldwide press conference this afternoon if there could ever be a Downton movie, he said:

“I can confirm that there have been rumours. And our position is that we would be very interested in that.

“We would love to do that. We’re contemplating it. It would be very fun to do. I think it would be a wonderful extension of everything we love.

“It would take a lot of planning and thinking about. We shall see.”

“It is something [creator] Julian [Fellowes] and I would be very interested to do, if we can get the production.”

(Doesn’t Gareth just SOUND posh, even in writing?)

Back to Downton. What about a possible spin-off show?

    Gareth commented:

“There are no definite plans for a spin-off but I couldn’t rule it out.”

So that’s basically a YES on the film, and a maybe on the spin-off show. ACE.

Now you can cheer up and stop sobbing – there could be TONS more Evil Thomas and Dowager Countess to come.
