Olly Murs has addressed the rumours that he’ll be taking over as the* X Factor* presenter after Dermot O’Leary decided to throw in the towel after eight years on the show.

Derm broke our hearts on Friday with these tweets: "After eight wonderful years on The X Factor it's time for me to move on.

More news!

"I'd like to thank ITV, Simon, The X Factor family and particularly the viewers, all of whom have been a big part of my life for so long.

"I'd like to wish the team all the best for the future, especially whoever takes over from me. You're about to be the conductor on the most brilliant, runaway train in showbiz. Good luck you'll love it!"

And now people are speculating that previous X Factor contestant and ex-Xtra Factor presenter Olly might be the man to take over from lovely Dermot.

Speaking to reporters at Madame Tussauds, he said: "It's so sad to see him leave. Dermot was there for me from day one. Dermot is a personal friend of mine and is someone I get on really well with.

"I have known him since 2009 when I did the show as a contestant. It is obviously a massive shame, he has done an incredible eight years but I think it is now time for a new chapter."

On whether he and his old Xtra Factor co-host Caroline Flack will take the job, he said: "It's rumours. Everyone is speculating about it. I have presented The Xtra Factor before with Caroline and I loved it.

"Caroline is great. We worked together years ago and we loved it. Every year there is speculation that I am going to do The X Factor, as a judge or presenter, and I just ignore it."

So, turns out we don’t actually know any more about what’s going on after all. Soz.
