The first official picture of Jared Leto as the Joker has been released and it really is something special.

The new version of the character from the Batman films has undergone a bit of an image change and it certainly doesn’t disappoint.

Jared’s version features tattoos, chrome teeth and green hair and in the snap the Thirty Seconds to Mars frontman is pulling a terrifying face.

Suicide Squad director David Ayer shared the image on Twitter this morning to mark the 75th birthday of the Joker.

He wrote: “The Suicide Squad wishes you a Happy Anniversary Mr. J! #Joker75 #SuicideSquad @WarnerBrosEnt @DCComics.”

Jared is the first person to play the role in the movie franchise since late actor Heath Ledger last portrayed the character in the 2008 film The Dark Knight.

Suicide Squad is released next year.
