The promotional trail for The Avengers: Age of Ultron has resulted in quite a lot of drama, hasn't it?

First we had Robert Downey Jr walking out of an interview, after he was asked about his past, and now his co-stars Jeremy Renner and Chris Evans have had to apologise after making offensive comments in another interview.

Speaking to website *Digital Spy, *Renner and Evans called Scarlett Johansson's character the Black Widow a "slut" and "whore".

Talking about rumours around the Black Widow character's romantic storyline, Renner said "She's a slut." Evans then added, "I was going to say something along that line ... a complete whore." Renner then joked that "she has a prosthetic leg anyway" .

The comments resulted in an interview meltdown, with fans calling out the stars for "slut-shaming" the character.

Now both Jeremy and Chris have issued an apology for their actions.

Chris' rep released the following statement:

"Yesterday we were asked about the rumours that Black Widow wanted to be in a relationship with both Hawkeye and Captain America. We answered in a juvenile and offensive way that rightfully angered some fans. I regret it and sincerely apologize."

Jeremy's also released a (slightly more punchy) statement:

"I am sorry that this tasteless joke about a fictional character offended anyone. It was not meant to be serious in any way. Just poking fun during an exhausting and tedious press tour."
