Tensions were always going to run high when it came to the first depiction of Amy Winehouse’s manic life on film, but now two of the most important men in the singer’s life have withdrawn their support of her new biopic.

Reg Traviss, who was engaged to Amy when she died from alcohol poisoning in 2011, has slammed Amy: The Girl Behind The Name and its makers for “exploiting her talent”.

“Amy was a real person, and what the documentary-makers have done - like so many others before them - is effectively attack her,” he claimed.

“They claimed to have made a serious, unbiased documentary that presents an honest depiction of Amy. Instead, they have taken her name and exploited her talent for their own ends, without taking the responsibility of reflecting the true person that she was.”

Reg, who is a director himself, first saw the documentary in January and realised how little he featured in it, despite filming hours and hours of interview material.

It comes after Amy’s dad Mitch Winehouse branded the biopic as “fictionalised” based around a “distorted depiction” of the late singer’s life.

But when it premiered at the Cannes Film Festival yesterday, critics hailed it as being one of the stand-out movies of the season.

Several gave it five-star reviews and said it was tough to watch, but compelling.

Amy’s parents both appear in the film but didn’t show up for the first screening.
