Ben Stiller thanks fans for kind words following his mother’s death

Ben thanked his fans for all the endearing messages after his mother's passing.

Earlier today Ben Stiller thanked his fans following the death of his mother - Anne Meara - on Saturyday.

He posted to his followers on Twitter: "Thank you so much for all the kind words about Anne.

"All of us in our family feel so lucky to have had her in our lives."

Anne Meara passed away at age 85 and was married to comedian Jerry Stiller for 61 years.

Anne worked with Jerry Stiller & Meara on The Ed Sullivan Show in the '60s and '70s, as well as in a more recently in 2010 for a Yahoo mini series partly produced by her Zoolander actor son.

The family statement read: "Anne's memory lives on in the hearts of daughter Amy, son Ben, her grandchildren, her extended family and friends, and the millions she entertained as an actress, writer and comedienne."

Lots of celebrity friends have been paying their respects, included Debra Messing and Sarah Michelle Gellar.

Will and Grace star Debra posted on Twitter: "ANNE MEARA--- no words. I had the immense honor of working with her. What a legend. My (love) and (prayers) with her family... #RIPAnneMear (sic)"

Sarah shared her condolensces and posted: "I had the honor of working with #AnneMeara on #AllMyChildren. I always knew I was in the presence of greatness when she was around #RIP."
