Ed Sheeran is having a really AMAZING day. Despite telling us he was suffering from jet lag (is that man ever not busy?) he was handed Songwriter of the Year at the Ivor Novello awards.

Ed flew in specially for the event, at the swanky Grosvenor House hotel in London, where he was joined by the crème de la crème of the music industry.

Clean Bandit picked up two awards for their track Rather Be (Best Contemporary Song and Most Performed Work) while Hozier picked up the gong for Best Song Musically and Lyrically for Take Me To Church.

While at the awards, Ed revealed that recently he had some trouble at US airport customs after Elton John sent him some dodgy videos. Seriously – Ed was sent rude videos by Elton.

“The worst email he ever sent me was, I got to customs in New York once and I had 17 new emails from him and I was like, something must be important,” Ed said backstage.

“And they were all video attachments, and I downloaded the first one, and yeah - it was good. I was at customs and it's pretty hard to get in to America anyway without those sort of videos. It happens quite a lot.”
