The movie and book series about teenagers slaughtering each other for food and fighting maniacal corruption of an overbearing government has been selected to be turned into a sassy musical in London. Yes, The Hunger Games is coming to London's West End.
All of the death and singing will be displayed on a fabulous 360 degree rotating stage in a purpose-built 1300 seater venue in the area around Wembley Stadium.
The swanky spinning stage is the brainchild of producer Robin de Levita, who has picked up a host of Tony and Olivier Awards.
Songs likely to appear are cheerful numbers such as Hanging Tree, which is sung by Jennifer Lawrence in the movies and *Deep In The Meadow, *which is crooned out to a character laying on their deathbed. Fun, huh?
Lionsgate's chief marketing officer Tim Palen said: "Robin de Levita and the entire production team are the perfect partners for extending The Hunger Games franchise into a live theatrical experience.
"Their creative genius, combined with world-class production values and state-of-the-art technology will provide a uniquely immersive experience for fans around the world."
The movies based on the dystopian novels by Suzanne Collins have already racked up over 1.5 billion worldwide. The final installment of the franchise, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 is set to hit cinemas in November 2015.
