Melissa Rivers lost her mum, Joan Rivers, after there were complications during a throat operation.

Melissa has now spoken out about her tragic loss and claims Joan’s death was ‘100% preventable’.

The 81-year-old Fashion Police co-host died - almost eight months ago now - after complications from an endoscopic procedure.

Her daughter Melissa has since filed a malpractice lawsuit against the New York City clinic where she was undergoing the surgery.

The actress said: "In my opinion, it was 100 per cent preventable."

In an interview with the Today show – due to air on Monday - Melissa said she found out via email that Joan was in a medically induced coma while rushing with her son Cooper to be by Joan’s bedside.

Melissa, 47, said: "I just couldn't believe what I was seeing ... it becomes very surreal."

She previously admitted she believes her mother knew she was with her when she died and that she even climbed into her mother's hospital bed as the ventilators were turned off and Joan took in her last breath.

Melissa is now suing the clinic because she alleges doctors performed additional procedures on Joan without her consent while she was sedated and continued to operate on her mother while her blood pressure and heart rate dropped.

She previously said: "Not only did my mother deserve better, every patient deserves better. It is my goal to make sure that this kind of horrific medical treatment never happens to anyone again."
