Boyzone star Ronan Keating reckons ex-One Direction star Zayn Malik is hugely going to regret quitting the band – and he should have taken a break instead.

Speaking to heat ahead of his stint as breakfast presenter on Magic Radio, Ronan told us that he understands how Zayn felt about being in 1D.

“I know what a pressure cooker being in a band like that can be. I felt like that too – I had to get out,” he said.

“But I don’t think he should have left. I think he should have taken a break instead. Because he will regret it. It’s a great band, a great opportunity. He’s a young lad, I think he will regret it.”

Ronan, who is currently planning his wedding to Storm Uechtritz for this summer, also talked about his trouble with Boyzone’s ex-manager Louis Walsh.

“I think it’s obvious we don’t have a great relationship. Sadly, it was the way it went,” he said.

“He was very important to me as a mentor and I’m grateful for the opportunities he gave me, because I wouldn’t be here without them. But there’s only so much you can give back and be so grateful, and for that not to be appreciated or respected.”

On Louis’ recent denouncement of Cheryl Fernandez-Versini as “lazy” and “irrelevant”, Ronan explained: “Louis has a tendency to say things. It’s about making things up and there’s a level of bitterness that you see from that.

“Really he should just move on and be happy and grateful for what he’s achieved – he’s had a great career. It’s no life to be bitter and talking negatively about people – it festers in your soul.

“And he’s writing a book – what’s he going to write about?! People in glass houses should not be throwing stones.”

Quite.
