Filming for The X Factor auditions starts in a matter of weeks, and last week, Radio 1 Breakfast Show host Nick Grimshaw emerged as the bookies’ favourite to win a place on the judging panel. Grimmy has said it won’t conflict with his R1 commitments, Simon loves him, we love him – here are a few more reasons why we think he’d be a brilliant judge...

1. He’ll make the X Factor fun again

Simon Cowell told heat he wants to make The X Factor as much fun as Britain’s Got Talent. A comedian would be too removed from the music business, so Grimmy’s the perfect answer, combining music knowledge and credibility with humour and likeability.

2. He’ll publicise the show

Simon loves the fact that Grimmy constantly talks about The X Factor and BGT on Radio 1, and he has even been on Grimmy’s show as a guest a few times.

3. He and Si have the same sense of humour

Remember when Simon pranked Amanda Holden on Grimmy’s show, telling her she was being sidelined for younger judge Cheryl Cole? That.

4. He’s well connected

Nick could bring big stars to Judges’ Houses and the live shows – Taylor Swift or Rihanna, anyone? Plus, with other celeb friends like One Direction, Rita Ora and Kate Moss, can you imagine the Frow at the lives?

5. He’s got the yoof factor

Grimmy will bring in a younger audience, which Cowell desperately wants, but he doesn’t have diva-like tendencies like previous “streetwise” judges. (Cough Tulisa.)

6. Simon’s mates love him

Everyone in Simon’s circle – Amanda, Alesha etc – love him. In fact, Mand and Alesha recently voiced their approval of Grimmy on Alan Carr’s Chatty Man. And they’re not the only ones to think he’d be good at the job – Davina McCall is also backing Grimmy.

7. He’s available

The BBC would happily let him do the show (he talks about The X Factor anyway) and the timings would work in terms of his breakfast show – filming never starts until late afternoon because of Mr Cowell!

8. He wants the job

Last month, Grimmy told us he’d definitely want a job on the show and “loved” The X Factor – which he wouldn’t do unless he was in with a chance of getting it.
