For the past eight weeks, millions of us have been glued to Humans – Channel 4’s most successful drama series in 20 years, about a world in the not too distant future where high tech robots – known as Synths – are slowly replacing humans; in their jobs, their homes and even in the bedroom. Each to their own and all that.

Gemma Chan plays the show’s main character Anita the Synth, who’s hiding a big secret underneath her rubbery synthetic skin. With her hypnotic blue-eyed blank stare and jerky robotic movements, her boyfriend in real life, comedian Jack Whitehall, is scared of Gemma in the show.
“She’s terrifying in it. I’m a bit scared of her around the house. But I’m so proud. When someone you love does something like that, you have the same anxieties that you would if you’d done it yourself. So when it came out and was brilliant, I was relieved. It’s so good, I’d watch it every week whether she was in it or not.”
Jack - who's starring in the upcoming Bad Education film - and Gemma first met on the set of Fresh Meat (Gemma played drama student Ruth who deflowered Joe Thomas’ character Kingsley) in 2011, and have been a couple ever since. So it's probably fair to say Jack will overcome the fear of his gf being a robot without having too many nightmares.
