When Cheryl Fernandez-Versini was announced as the new executive producer of X Factor we couldn’t wait to hear what changes she’s made for the brand spanking new show this year.

And to her delight she made Simon Cowell tell us her happy news at the official X Factor episode preview launch, which was held at the London Central Picture house earlier this week.

She teased: “Simon go ahead and name them.” But Simon let slip something which was even a surprise to fellow judge Nick Grimshaw. “I’ve really opened a can of worms here” said Simon. “The audience choosing the categories was probably hers [Cheryl’s idea], definitely Nick...”

To which a surprised Grimmy asked: “Was that your decision?” Simon quickly clarified, resuming his boss status, adding: “No not decision, it was [Cheryl's] idea. It was MY decision.” And then started to backtrack, saying: “I think there was just the one idea now come to think of it.”

Cheryl added: “We just brainstorm, we have fun brainstorming and having a laugh together.”

Viewers will decide which category each judge should mentor by taking part in a Twitter vote. The voting will launch tomorrow and will close next Tuesday.
