Jamelia has been revealed as the 12th celebrity in this year’s Strictly Come Dancing line-up.

The singer, who shot to fame in 1999, will join the likes of Peter Andre, BBC weather presenter Carol Kirkwood, The Wanted’s Jay McGuiness and Ready, Steady, Cook host Ainsley Harriott in foxtrotting around the studio.

Speaking about her introduction to ballroom dancing, Jamelia said: “My girls are huge fans of Strictly, but when I told them I was doing it they laughed as they know that dancing is not my forté!

“The girls are amazing dancers though so I definitely want to learn a new skill so that I'll be able to give them a run for their money, and end them teasing me once and for all.”

It means Jamelia will be jumping ship to the BBC – at least for a while – from her current position as Loose Women panellist on ITV.

Strictly Come Dancing returns to BBC1 in September for its 13th series.
