Middle brother Jamal is quite a sensitive soul. He’s talented, gay and frequently finds himself in his father’s bad books, just for telling it how it is. He despises the lack of soul in the music industry but dad Lucious thinks he lacks the charisma needed to make it big.

And here’s ex-wife Cookie Lyon, mum to the three brothers, who’s just got out of jail after an 18-year sentence for drug-dealing. She is on. The. Warpath. Turns out those drug offences weren’t technically hers – could they have anything to do with Lucious’ rise through the ranks of power? Either way, Cookie’s set on revenge. And she wants half the company. Will she get it?

Anika Calhoun is another woman who feels wronged by Lucious – she used to be his fiancée before things went down the pan. Oh, and she HATES Cookie. Anika’s still the head of A&R at Empire, which we’re guessing rubs Cookie up the wrong way, like, 24/7.
