Sad (but unsurprising) news, EastEnders fans.

The residents of E20 will welcome in 2016 with a death.

:(

But who is making their way to the great Queen Vic in the sky?

Well, if the picture of Charlie Slater (Derek Martin) above didn't give it away, it's (drum roll) Charlie Slater!

Cabbie Charlie is due back in Albert Square to spend Christmas with his daughter Kat (Jessie Wallace) - our spirit animal, and Alfie Moon (Shane Richie) but his visit will be short-lived.

    Oh, Charlie *sob

An EastEnders insider told heatworld: “Charlie has always played a massive part in his daughter’s lives so his death is going to hit Kat hard. Charlie’s return to the show was always to play this storyline which will be the catalyst for Kat to learn more secrets about her past which will eventually see Kat and Alfie head to Ireland.

“Charlie’s death is going to be a real tear jerker for the audience who will be waiting to see if he and Kat can mend bridges before he dies.”

Charlie was last seen in ‘Enders in 2013 when he spent Christmas with Kat and Alfie for their final December at The Vic.

    But how will Charlie croak?

The details are being kept under wraps but we strongly believe he will run himself over in his death cab.

It could happen! If we've learned anything from Brian Harvey it's that running yourself over in a car is possible.
