Was Spencer Matthews thrown out of I’m A Celebrity jungle after rage and demanding “steroid-based” drugs?

Spencer Matthews made the shock confession he’d left the I’m A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! jungle earlier this week after he struggled without the “steroid-based medication” he’d been taking.

But it seems there may have been more at play – it’s alleged the Made In Chelsea star had a huge row with show bosses after they refused to give him the drugs.

Reality star Spencer admitted he took the medication in a bid to bulk up for a charity boxing match before he jetted to Australia to take part in I’m A Celeb, and was looking noticeably more ripped when he whipped off his top to take part in a Bushtucker Trial.

Steroids, which are banned by major sporting bodies, are known for their negative side effects which include mood swings and aggression.

And while it’s not clear if Spencer attempted to sneak the drugs into the jungle camp, it’s alleged he fell out with show bosses when he asked for the medication.

A source told the Sunday Mirror: “He flipped and was behaving in an aggressive and unusual way. He was struggling to cope.

“Bosses tried to calm him down but they were never going to give him steroids. In the end the only option was for him to leave.”

Spencer apologised to viewers after he left the jungle earlier this week, writing on Twitter: “I screwed up and have some explaining to do.

“Shortly after I arrived in Australia I told the production team I was taking a steroid-based medication that began some weeks ago. It was in preparation for a charity boxing match which, ironically, never took place.

“Vanity, I suppose, had been the reason. I had intended to come off the pills gradually but there was no time to do this before the jungle.

“My admission to the production team I was still taking these pills led to the conclusion it would be unsafe for me to stay, a decision I found extremely hard to stomach.

“I pushed back but ultimately the show’s duty of care prevailed and bags had to be packed.”

He added: “Taking these pills was a serious error of judgement, which I hugely regret.

“I have disappointed my family, friends and fans and would like to apologise.

“I would like to thank ITV for support.”

We have contacted a representative for Spencer for comment. A spokesperson for I'm A Celebrity declined to comment.
