Rather excitingly, Ellen DeGeneres has confirmed that she will be taking over from Paula Abdul and becoming the new fourth judge on American Idol. The new series kicks off in January next year, and Ellen is very excited about her new role. "I have a big announcement to make," she told the audience of her chat show last night. "No one knows this. I just finally got the OK, just moments ago, to announce this to you today… I am going to be the new judge on American Idol!" Ellen will be working on both Idol and her chat show at the same time, saying, "I’m going to have a day job and a night job." Idol creator Simon Fuller confirmed the news last night in a statement, saying, "I could not be more excited to have Ellen join the American Idol family. Ellen has been a fan of the show for many years, and her love of music and understanding of the American public will bring a unique human touch to our judging panel. I can’t wait for this next season to begin." We think Ellen will be brilliant. What do you think?
