If people were going around saying that we were a bit loopy, we’d be delighted if our friends came to our defence – but perhaps not if the friends in question were known for being a little, how do we put it, eccentric themselves. Joss Stone says she is good mates with Tom Cruise, and reckons his reputation as a alien-addled loon is unfair. “Tom called me and said that he loved my music and would I like to come over and meet the family?” she says. “I do not understand why people are so mean about him. He's lovely, he didn't strike me as weird in any way. I will stand up for that man against any of his critics.” He must be so relieved...
