Mary-Kate Olsen seeks immunity over Heath Ledger

It has emerged today that actress Mary-Kate Olsen will not speak to investigators about Heath Ledger's death unless she is granted immunity from prosecution. An official has said that the 22-year-old star wants the assurance before she speaks to the DEA (Drug Enforcement Agency). Olsen's lawyer has claimed that his client has already told the authorities all she knows and added, "She does not know the source of the drugs Mr Ledger consumed." Investigators allegedly want to question Mary-Kate about how Heath got hold of two powerful painkillers that contributed to his death. DEA officials suspect that the painkillers oxycodone and hydrocodone found in Heath's system were both obtained using false prescriptions. An official confirmed that the authorities are currently in negotiations with Mary-Kate's lawyer, but they also have a subpoena which could force the star to appear before a grand jury. All the other witnesses involved in the case, including Heath's ex Michelle Williams, doctors and people who were in the apartment block at the time of his death, have all answered questions voluntarily. Mary-Kate was the first person Heath's masseuse called upon discovering his body, and it is known that she sent her personal security staff over to the apartment to help. The actress' lawyer has issued this statement: "Despite tabloid speculation, Mary-Kate Olsen had nothing whatsoever to do with the drugs found in Heath Ledger's home or his body, and she does not know where he obtained them. We don't know the source of the information being quoted in the media regarding the government's inquiry, but these descriptions are incomplete and inaccurate." Ooer... The case continues.
