We thought it was lovely – if not a little suspect – when Ricky Martin announced last week that he’d fathered twin boys, born to a surrogate mother. But now a Catholic Cardinal has said he thinks the whole thing is disgusting. "What Martin did diminishes the dignity of a human being, says Catholic leader Oscar Andres Rodriguez. “You can't just buy or rent life. It's even worse when someone famous and in the public eye is doing it.” Meanwhile, a talk-show host in Mexico has put forward a similar view. “I don't think it's right to deny children of maternal figures, just because you have a big ego,” says Estebean Arce. There’s also gossip emerging about how the news has been received by mags in the US, after it was thought they would pay up for exclusive pictures of Ricky’s boys. Apparently nobody’s interested, because they know Ricky won’t tell the full story about why he went with a surrogate – hmm, we think we know what they’re getting at…

As long as he can provide for his children and look after them I don't see the problem at all. Surrogate's aren't uncommon these days nore are single parent families. This guy at the church is just arrogant to the world outside his church.

Noone has a "right" to have children, they are a gift, and the ideal is for them to have a mother and a father who will support each other and the child for life. Obviously relationships go wrong sometimes but that shouldn't be the plan from thestart

What??? They don't criticise single mothers? Fathers are just as important and can be just as good lone parents. Why shouldn't he become a father? He obviously realises that surrogacy might be his only chance. Jacko did it..scrap that thought!!
