EastEnders react after viewers complain about THIS kiss

Did you see EastEnders on Tuesday? If not, then allow us to tell you what happened – characters Christian and Lee were having a snog in the square, and an unimpressed Dot Cotton caught them in the act and told them off for canoodling. Anyway, the BBC have now been flooded with complaints about the kiss being shown before the 9pm watershed. “I am appalled by the display of homosexual kissing before the watershed shown on EastEnders,” one wrote on a messageboard (wow, these people have computers? We thought they lived in the dark ages!). “This is disgraceful whilst young children are watching and sets the wrong example.” Another viewer wrote, “I had to explain to my seven-year-old son what was happening. He now thinks he is gay because he kisses his dad.” For God’s sake! The BBC have now issued a statement standing by their decision to show the kiss. “We approach our portrayal of homosexual relationships in the same way as we do heterosexual relationships,” it read. “We believe that the general tone and content of EastEnders is now widely recognised. Parents can make an informed decision as to whether they want their children to watch.” 21 years ago, there was a similar ludicrous EastEnders hoo-ha, when one gay character kissed his partner on the forehead. It was even discussed in Parliament! It’s a little bit depressing that things haven’t progressed a great deal since then, don’t you think?
