Simon talks about quitting The X Factor

We don't know about you, but we can't imagine The X Factor without Simon Cowell. The snide comments, the cheeky winking, that hair... It just wouldn't be the same show. However, this hasn't stopped the music mogul from discussing his plans to quit. "It looks like I’m only going to be doing it until 2010," he confesses, "I’ve really felt it this year." Simon admits that doing The X Factor on top of American Idol and Britain's Got Talent is exhausting, and that unfortunately something has to go. "I’m contracted to do one more series and then I’ll make a decision," he says, "When you do three shows a year it’s tiring and something’s got to give." The judge also says he's not sure if Dannii will return next year, explaining, "Dannii and I have genuinely never discussed her coming back. I’ve not sat down with anyone and discussed coming back – including her. If Dannii says no then there’s always someone new, and that applies to everyone." Simon defended his decision to sit newcomer Cheryl Cole next to him, merely saying, "I think with the new person you’ve got to sit next to them and guide them through the show – that’s the only reason I sat next to Cheryl." He denies there was any jealousy between Dannii and Cheryl, but did describe Cheryl as this year's "real winner". Hmmm. Could you imagine The X Factor without Simon Cowell? And, if he does end up quitting, who the hell would be able to take his place?
