Here are the nominations in the major categories of the Oscars, which have just been announced. Congratulations to Ireland’s brilliant Saoirse Ronan, aged 13, for her Best Supporting Actress nomination for Atonement. Also to Canada’s Ellen Page, 20, for her Best Actress nod in the excellent Juno. Big shock: no The Simpsons Movie in Animated Feature category, losing out to Surf’s Up. Ratatouille and Cannes Film Festival prize winner Persepolis are the joint frontrunners in that category. As for Best Picture? At this point the winner is anyone’s guess. Oscars will be handed out on Sunday February 24.
