Will Young talks about his big break-up

We've missed Will Young's music while he's been away, but now he's back – with brand new single Changes and album Let It Go. Will's new material is his most personal yet, and he admits many of the songs have come from the heart. "There are a few break-up songs," reveals the singer, whose last serious relationship was with a dancer named Conor. "They are about a relationship that wasn't working and the inevitable ending. I sing love songs that are a little sad or confused," he says. Will has also been talking about his time on Pop Idol all those years ago, saying, "I'm still immensely proud of winning the competition. When I look back, it seems crazy." Will managed to pip favourite Gareth Gates to the post in the final, and has now gone on to have a far more successful career than his cute co-star. However, Will is still fiercely protective of Gareth. "I'll always defend Gareth because he's a lovely guy. In music, a lot of things are down to timing and luck, and he's doing brilliantly in other areas." Will's new album is his first for three years, and he's now confessed that he'd become disillusioned with the music world. "I felt as if I was heading towards internal combustion," he explains, "I needed a break so I could start enjoying music again." Will warns that his new album may be a bit "bleak" for some fans, but explains that most of the songs are about "moving on", and leaving the sad times behind.
