Miss England gets first plus-size finalist…

The beauty pageant stereotype is skinny, bleach-blonde Barbie lookalikes wittering on about world peace – but Miss Surrey winner Chloe Marshall has just become the first size 16 girl to make it through to this summer’s Miss England final. Seventeen-year-old Chloe – a trainee beautician from Guildford – is 5’10”, weighs 12-and-a-half stone and has a 38DD bust – and she says she entered the competition to show that you can be curvy and beautiful. “I wanted to go through to the Miss England finals to break through the stereotype that you have to be tall and skinny,” says Chloe. “I wanted to make a bit of a statement. When I studied the other entrants for the Miss Surrey competition, I concluded that pretty as the contestants were, they were equally all uniformly blonde and Barbie doll-like. The reaction I've had is great. Other girls have told me I have really boosted their confidence, which is terrific. Some people gain weight because of a bad diet or lack of exercise, but there are lots of people like me who exercise regularly and eat well but are just naturally bigger. Everyone is different. So it upsets me that curvy role models like Charlotte Church and singer Adele are few and far between. People ask how I will cope among so many tiny girls and whether I will feel out of place, but it won't bother me. I know big can be beautiful. I'm happy the way I am. If Miss England was a plus- size, it would really break the mould.” We love Chloe’s healthy attitude and think she’s way more attractive (inside and out!) than former Miss England winner Danielle Lloyd, but what do you think?
