Before we say anything about his latest blog, can we just say GOLD HOTPANTS. Yes, Brian donned a pair to wrestle a man on Big Brother's Big Mouth last Friday, and it was...well...pretty impressive. If you didn't see it, then you seriously missed out. Hee hee. Thankfully, however, Brian recovered enough over the Bank Holiday to scribble down his latest thoughts on the BB housemates as their final week gets underway. Have a read, if you will.
The Final Week
We have now reached the milestone that is the final week of Big Brother. The weird thing about the last week is there are certain housemates that you can not believe have made it that far in the series, and other housemates that you always knew would be there till the final day. Lisa has been a tricky housemate. Some days I cannot stand her, and other days she is the voice of reason. I did not think for one single moment on launch night that she would still be in the house by week 13. Siavash is another housemate that I always expected to be evicted before the end.
Siavash seems to have quite a big fan club, but to honest he annoys me so much I have to shout everytime he comes on the screen. The main thing that bores me to tears about Siavash is this whole "rebel without a cause" thing – the nomination strike that he has been the leader of for five weeks is the weakest piece of drivel I've had to encounter. For ten years, housemates have been nominating in that house right up until the penultimate week, so why is it so hard for Siavash and co when it is clearly obvious that they as a group are not even that close. He's forever going on about his principles and morals when he clearly has none since he cheated on his girlfriend on national TV.
I find it interesting that now they're in the last week, the housemates are turning against each other. Charlie and Lisa, who were once upon a time best mates, are now at each other's throats. The final week of BB is supposed to bring the housemates closer together, because it's such feeling of accomplishment and achievement – well, it was for me and my BB housemates. This lot have no loyalty and are very quick to throw one another under the bus if it means they'll get ahead in the show.
Rodrigo deserves to be in that house because he has played by the rules of the show and this is extremely vital. The key to BB is the housemates honouring the essence of the experience – this approach works best for housemate and viewer. You are supposed to be at the mercy of BB – the moment the contestants go against the main codes and conventions of the show's format is the moment things start to look a little bit shaky. That's why I have appreciated David more in the last couple of weeks. At least he has honoured the spirit of the game. The show is not about challenging BB till he breaks, the housemates have started to think that they are more important than Big Brother, but no contestant is ever bigger than the big man.
I have tipped Sophie to win since day one. It's no surprise to me she is still in the house now; she is the glamour girl who is openly – and by her own admission – a bit of a ladette. I think her strongest opposition for the crown is Rodrigo – he has been a slow burner of a housemate, but he quickly picked up steam when he met the "Queen". As narrator Marcus Bentley states..."Who wins, YOU decide..."
