True Blood star and a beautiful, beautiful man, Alexander was born in Stockholm, the eldest of seven children. His father was an actor and Alex followed his lead, landing his first film role at the age of seven. He went on to become a teen star in Sweden after starring in a hit TV drama at thirteen. Uncomfortable with the fame, Alexander quit acting for the next seven years.

Instead he turned to academia, well, for six months anyway, at Leeds Metropolitan University. He dropped out then moved to New York in 1997 to study theatre at Marymount Manhattan College.

While still working as a successful actor in Sweden, Alexander moved to LA in 2004 to be where the action is. He landed his breakthrough role in the critically lauded HBO series Generation Kill in 2008. But it was when he moved on to another HBO smash, True Blood, that the world really got to know about Alex. He’s played Eric Northman in the series for four seasons.

Alexander has since moved into movies, playing Meekus in Zoolander in 2001 and becoming official leading man material with the Lars Von Trier doom-epic Melancholia in 2011. He’s also playing the leading man in the forthcoming remake of Straw Dogs and is set to star alongside Rihanna in her motion picture debut Battleship, due out in 2012.

Alexander began dating his Straw Dogs co-star Kate Bosworth in 2009, but the couple split in July 2011.
