Biography
Growing up in Massachusetts, funny lady Amy studied at Boston College and began her comedy training as part of the college’s improv comedy group. After graduating she moved to Chicago, joining the world’s greatest improv troupe, Second City.
In Chicago Amy trained in improvisational theatre and met future double-act partner and 30 Rock creator Tina Fey. Comedy legends Joan Rivers, Bill Murray, Mike Myers, Dan Aykroyd, James Belushi, John Candy and Stephen Colbert all trained with Second City too.
Joining a second comedy group, Upright Citizens Brigade, Amy moved to New York. The group got their own Comedy Central show in 1998. In 2001 she joined the American comedy institution that is Saturday Night Live, reuniting with her old pal Tina. Amy became one of only three SNL performers to be promoted to the full time cast during their first year on the show.
Leaving SNL in 2009, she now stars in, produces, and co-writes the critically acclaimed TV comedy Parks and Recreation, created by the same team behind the US version of The Office. Amy’s received two Emmy nominations for her performance on the show.
Branching out into movies, she starred alongside Tina Fey in 2004’s Mean Girls and 2008’s Baby Mama, as well doing voiceover work for Shrek the Third, Spongebob Squarepants and Horton Hears a Who. She co-created her own Nickelodeon animation series The Mighty B in 2008.
She married Arrested Development star Will Arnett in August 2003, and the couple now have two sons.
