Biography
When Beyonce Knowles was just 11 she wrote a list of goals: make a gold album, record a platinum follow-up disc, and write and produce the third. By the time she was just 21 she had achieved them all. However, Miss B had worked blimmin’ hard to get there.
In the late 80s Beyonce and her mate Kelly Rowland joined a girl band, Girls Thyme, which was managed by her dad. The girls appeared on American TV show Star Search and were even signed to a major label. However, the world just wasn’t ready for Ms Knowles and their efforts flopped. But by 1997, Beyonce and Kelly were back with a new band called Destiny’s Child. After more line up changes than the Sugababes, the girls scored a ton of hits, won a few Grammys and their album, Survivor sold over ten million copies worldwide.
In 2003, during a ‘break’ from Destiny’s Child Beyonce released an album of solo material. Dangerously in Love it was called and a smash hit it was, winning Beyonce an amazing three (more!) Grammy awards.
Destiny’s Child officially split in 2005 and since then Beyonce has released three solo albums and gained a reputation as an incredible on stage performer, selling out venues across the globe. Her impressive back catalogue includes the amazing Single Ladies, which sparked a huge dance craze with its video which, much to the disappointment of Kanye West, lost out to Taylor Swift at the MTV Video Music Awards.
As well as being a Grammy award winning singing superstar, Beyonce is also a Golden Globe nominated actress appearing in films such as Austin Powers: Goldmember and Dreamgirls and also a fashion designer. Beyonce and her mum Tina, who designed clothes for Beyonce throughout her career, launched a fashion label, House of Dereon, in 2010.
Beyonce is married to rap star Jay Z and the couple have been together since 2002.
