Biography
Friends star Courteney was born in Birmingham. No, not that one. The Alabama one. After graduating high school she went on to study architecture at Mount Vernon College in Washington, DC, but she failed to complete the course, dropping out instead to follow her dream of becoming an actress and model.
Courteney advertised Tampax and got to dance with Bruce Springsteen in one of his music videos before she landed her first proper movie role in Masters of the Universe (anyone remember He-Man?) in 1987. She bagged TV roles in the unbelievably 80’s Misfits of Science, the classic Family Ties, and as Jerry Seinfeld’s pretend wife in the mega-sitcom Seinfeld.
Then along came Friends, and suddenly Courteney was catapulted into superstardom. Originally Courteney auditioned for the role of Rachel (that would just be WRONG), but she was given the part of neurotic chef Monica Geller instead. She played the role for a decade and became the highest paid woman on TV, along with Jennifer and Lisa, raking in $1 million per episode. She now stars in the sitcom Cougar Town.
During her time at Friends, Courteney also starred in the Scream horror movie series, where she met her one-time hubbie David Arquette. The pair married in 1999 and had one daughter, Coco Riley. They separated in 2010, but remain close pals. Courteney’s had some pretty high-profile boyfriends besides David, including Counting Crows frontman Adam Duritz, and Batman actor Michael Keaton.
