This year’s funny man, 22-year-old Craig Colton from Liverpool, wowed the judges in Liverpool, which was host to the auditions for the first time in the show’s eight year history.
Craig took on the female hit sensation Adele’s Hiding my Heart Away, and surprised the judging panel with his powerful version.
Not only did the biscuit factory worker surprise the judges, but he also surprised his unsuspecting parents who were sitting in the audience oblivious to the fact their son was auditioning.
“Mum just deep breathe” was his response when his ecstatic parents discovered his secret, as the cheeky crooner sailed through the audition with a huge congratulations from head judge Gary Barlow.
Craig admits coming from a musical household blasting with Motown and Soul hits, naming Adele, The Script and Marvin Gaye as his influences.
The quick-witted youngster, who’s dream is to perform at Glastonbury, reveals how he originally wanted to be an actor.
It was on his acting course that Craig and his teachers discovered he could sing and Craig has never looked back since.
Craig continued to impress with his dulcet tones, performing Damien Rice’s famous hit Cannonball at Boot Camp, which helped bag him a ticket to LA with the rest of Gary’s ‘Boys’.
Craig belted Beyoncé’s Halo at Judges’ Houses, leaving guest judge and fellow Take That member Robbie Williams in awe.
He even went as far to threaten Gary to put the Liverpudlian lad through to his final four or there’d be rows. As if the pair need any excuse to start a feud!
Somehow we don’t think Gazza needed much persuading telling Craig “you’re my secret weapon” placing Craig firmly in his final four.
Craig has spoken out about wanting to make his parents proud of him, already proving his dedication to the competition by losing a stone in just one week! What diet is he on?
We’ve heard rumours of early morning runs with Gary and his own personal chef are they key to his dramatic weight loss.
Craig has unsurprisingly amassed a large number of supporters and even has his own Twitter following called ‘The Coltonators’.
Fellow Scouser and previous X Factor runner-up Rebecca Ferguson recently Tweeted pleading people to vote for Craig, describing him as a “legend”.
The young starlet says he is adjusting to all the attention he is getting and was surprised at the ambush he received on a recent night out in Liverpool. Well it is Liverpool after all!
We reckon this cheeky chappie is a definite X Factor fave, and has already won over the nation’s heart.
