Biography
Devilishly handsome La Furnish is so much more than just Elton’s other half. Growing up in Canada he graduated with a degree in Business Administration, becoming an advertising executive for the international advertising agency Ogilvy & Mather.
Transferring with the company to London, a friend of his invited him to a dinner party at Elton John's house in 1993. David famously thought twice about going, worried that Elton would be an egomaniacal bore, but went along anyway and the two immediately hit it off.
With Sir Elton's encouragement, David quit his soulless advertising job in 1994 to concentrate on a more creative career in film production and writing. An eternal movie buff, he began taking courses at the British Film Institute, before setting up a productiong company, Rocket Pictures, with Elton.
David has directed the truly brilliant Tantrums and Tiaras documentary showing Elton in all his diva-ish glory, as well as producing the hit animated feature Gnomeo & Juliet and financing the West End hit, Billy Elliot the Musical. He also now writes for GQ and is on the board of the Elton John AIDS Foundation, raising megabucks for the renowned charity.
Elton proposed to David in May 2005 and on the first day the civil partnerships could be performed in England, they wed on December 21, 2005. The couple’s first son Zachary Jackson Levon was born on Christmas Day, 2010 via a surrogate, and the couple were nominated for Dad’s of the Year in 2011.
