Biography:
Disney starlet Demi was born into a musical family, her mum a former Dallas Cowboys cheerleader and country music singer. She began playing piano at 7 and landed her first acting role that same year on the classic kids show Barney & Friends.
After a tough time at school being bullied and self-harming, Demi was home-schooled and has since fronted anti-bullying campaigns. Her big break came in 2007 when she auditioned for Disney’s smash hit tween movie Camp Rock and Sonny with a Chance TV series. Demi wowed the producers and won both parts in the same day.
At 16 she was signed to a record deal and Camp Rock premiered to almost 9 million viewers, catapulting Demi to tween superstardom. Launching her music career, Demi toured with the Jonas Brothers in the lead up to her debut album, Don’t Forget. Released in 2008, it reached number 2 in the US. Her more ballad-laden second album was released the following year, debuting at number 1.
Demi’s since starred in Princess Protection Program with Selena Gomez and appeared as a mentally-ill teen in the hit series Grey’s Anatomy in 2010. There was trouble in tween paradise that same year when she entered rehab following a punch-up with a Jonas Brothers backing dancer on tour, being treated for bulimia and self-harm.
To date, Demi has dated heavily tattoed-up Metro Station rocker Trace Cyrus, Joe Jonas, and That 70’s Show star Wilmer Valderrama.
