Biography:
Lilting Welsh pop songstrel Ellie sure found fame fast. Born in Hereford, her mum was a shop assistant and her step-dad was a lorry driver. It was while she was studying drama at the University of Kent that she began to record her own music and collaborate with electro artists like Frankmusik and Starsmith. Two years into her course she left to pursue her singing career, moving to West London.
She was signed in 2009 and won both the BBC’s Sound of 2010 poll and the BRIT’s Critics’ Choice Award before she’d even released an album. Her debut album, Lights, was released in March 2010, topping the UK album charts and spawning hits like Starry Eyed and the breathy Elton John cover, Your Song.
In April 2011, Ellie gained the official royal seal of approval and was chosen to sing at the event of the decade, the royal wedding. She’s currently working on her new album, due to be released late 2011, and has had a stab at the American charts, appearing on Jimmy Kimmel and Saturday Night Live. Her current beau is Radio 1 hottie DJ Greg James.
