Biography:
The son of legendary Spanish smoothy Julio Iglesias (just ask your mum), Latin-pop sensation Enrique soon outstripped his dad’s status as the world’s foremost Spanish pop star. Initially he kept his musical ambitions hidden from his father, looking for success in his own right without his father’s help, and used the pseudonym Enrique Martinez for his earliest recordings.
Signing to a Mexican label, Enrique first became a massive star in Latin America before crossing over to the mainstream market. Recognising that America was ready for the Latin sound after the huge success of Ricky Martin and Selena, he released his first English-language album, Enrique, in 1999. It has since gone double-platinum. By the time he released his second English album, Escape, his English-language albums were outselling his Spanish-language albums for the first time.
To date, Enrique has released 9 albums, and notched up five Top 5 US singles, including two number 1’s. He has sold more than 95 million records, and holds the record for producing a staggering 22 chart-topping Spanish-language singles on the Billboard Hot Latin Tracks chart.
Enrique’s also branched out into acting, with roles in Once Upon a Time in Mexico alongside Salma Hayek and Johnny Depp, and has popped up in hit sitcoms Two and a Half Men and How I Met Your Mother.
Having dated Christina Aguilera and Jennifer Love-Hewitt, Enrique has been in a long-term relationship with sexy Russian tennis hottie Anna Kournikova since 2001.
