Biography:
Geri was born in Watford, Hertfordshire and attended the Camden School for Girls. Geri’s mum is from Spain and Geri speaks Spanish. Before her time in the Spice Girls, she appeared on a Turkish gameshow, danced in a nightclub in Majorca, and worked as a glamour model.
She finally hit the big time in 1994 when she successfully auditioned to join a new girl group, the Spice Girls. Their debut single Wannabe is the most successful song released by an all female group, selling around 7 million copies, while their debut album Spice is the most successful song released by an all female group, selling around 23 million copies.
Catapulted into worldwide megastardom, Geri was instantly nicknamed Ginger Spice and was famed for her OTT outfits and publicity-grabbing behaviour. Dealing with that level of fame was hard for Geri and she quit the Spice Girls to pursue a solo career in 1998.
She released three solo albums, reaching the top spot with tongue-in-cheek pop hits like Look at Me and Mi Chico Latino. In April 2007 Geri announced that she had signed a six-book deal for her series of children’s book Ugenia Lavender. Later that year, the Spice Girls reunited for a hugely successful 47-date tour.
