Biography:
Peroxide pop punk Gwen was born in California and grew up listening to her big brother’s ska records while everybody else was sulking about listening to grunge. She began taking music lessons as a kid and debuted at her high school talent show singing Sound of Music songs.
A born performer, Gwen joined her brother Eric’s ska band No Doubt 1986. He left to work as an animator on The Simpsons and the band went on to win two Grammy’s and 5 MTV Music Awards. Their breakthrough came with their third album, Tragic Kingdom, in 1995 selling more than 16 million copies, with the single Don’t Speak going to number 1 in the UK and US.
Gwen’s first solo album, Love. Angel. Music. Baby, was released in 2004, going triple-platinum and introducing the world to her unique dance troupe, Harajuku Girls. Releasing her second solo album in 2006, it reached number 2 in both the US and UK.
Taking to acting, Gwen played blonde bombshell Jean Harlow in Martin Scorcese’s The Aviator in 2004 and has had roles in King of the Hill and Gossip Girl. Noted for her eclectic wardrobe, Gwen launched her own high-fashion clothing line L.A.M.B. in 2004, followed by the more affordable Harajuku Lovers range, and is currently designing a kid’s range too.
Gwen dated her No Doubt bandmate Tony Kanal before meeting Bush singer Gavin Rossdale in 1995. They married in 2002 and have two sons, Kingston, born 2006, and Zuma Nesta Rock, born 2008.
