Biography
One of the hardest working comedy actresses in Hollywood, Jane was born in Dolton Illinois. She studied theatre are at Illinois State University and Cornell University before spending fifteen years in Chicago theatre.
She moved on to the renowned improv comedy training ground Second City, where the likes of Tina Fey, Bill Murray, Joan Rivers and Mike Myers learned how to make us pee ourselves with laughter. Working in film and TV since 1988, Jane got her first big break in 2000 with her role in the Spinal Tap creators’ dog show comedy, Best in Show. She made a name for herself as a gifted comedy actress with roles in A Mighty Wind, The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Talladega Nights and Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story.
Jane’s also been in just about every American TV show you can think of, including Frasier, 3rd Rock from the Sun, Dawson’s Creek, Family Guy, The West Wing, The L Word, Two and a Half Men, Friends, and Desperate Housewives.
She finally hit paydirt in 2009, winning critical acclaim for her role as the somewhat insane cheerleading coach Sue Sylvester in the TV musical megahit sensation Glee. She won the 2011 Best Supporting Actress Golden Globe for her performance on the show.
In May 2010, Jane married her long-term girlfriend, psychologist Dr. Lara Embry.
