Biography
Teen heartthrob actor-turned-rocker Jared was raised by his single mum and granddad and travelled around all over the place as a kid as his granddad was in the airforce. Moving to LA in 1992 with just $500 to his name, he hit the big time in 1994 landing the role of brooding teen hunk Jordan Catalano in the cult teen TV drama My So-Called Life.
An instant teen idol, Jared stuck to edgy film roles, starring with Winona and Angelina in Girl, Interrupted, the critically-acclaimed Requiem for a Dream, Fight Club and American Psycho in 2000. After losing 28 pounds to play a junkie in Requiem for a Dream, he then gained it all back and then some to play John Lennon’s killer in Chapter 27 alongside Lindsay Lohan, whom he had a minor fling with.
Besides acting, Jared’s launched a successful music career with his rock band 30 Seconds to Mars. Formed in 1998 with his brother, the band’s been nominated for a bunch of MTV Awards, their second album A Beautiful Lie went platinum in several countries, and Jared directs the band’s videos too.
Jared has dated some top Hollywood totty including Ashley Olsen, Jessica Simpson and an engagement to Cameron Diaz. As of July 2011, he’s been dating Danish model Katharina Damm.
