We got half the talent each
Biography:
Fame-hungry tall-haired Irish pop twins Jedward were born in Dublin, their mum a teacher and their dad a computer technician. The duo started performing together in school talent shows, but say they were bullied throughout high school for standing out from the crowd.
They shot to fame when they auditioned together as John & Edward for the sixth series of The X Factor in 2009. Their combined cockiness, hilariously bad performances, cheeky charm and insane hunger for fame ensured they became the stars of the show. We think Simon Cowell summed them up best when he described them as “incredibly annoying”. With Simon threatening to leave the country if Jedward won The X Factor, the hyperactive pair eventually came sixth.
Post-X Factor Jedward signed a management deal with Irish pop mogul and their X Factor mentor Louis Walsh. They released their debut single, a mash up of Under Pressure and Ice Ice Baby in January 2010, reaching number two in the UK. But six months later the Jedmania bubble had already begun to deflate and their second single, a cover of Blink 182’s All The Small Things, hobbled into the charts at number 80.
The pair have since starred in their own reality show, Jedward: Let Loose, and represented Ireland in the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest coming in eighth place. In a shameless bid to boost their fame once more, Jedward have signed up to star in the must-see Celebrity Big Brother comeback on Channel Five in August 2011.
