Biography
Inbetweeners funnyman Joe was born in Essex and attended the private King Edward VI Grammar School in Chelmsford before moving on to study at Cambridge University. Here he joined the famous Cambridge Footlights, the drama society that gave us the likes of Peter Cook, Stephen Fry, Emma Thompson and half of Monty Python.
It was in Footlights that Joe met his future Inbetweeners co-star and comedy writing partner Simon Bird. The two, with their friend and fellow comedian Jonny Sweet, started their own comedy group The House of Windsor. The group garnered critical success at the Edinburgh Festival in 2007 and 2008 with their surreal sketch show The Meeting. Joe was cast in his breakthrough role in 2008 as Simon Cooper in E4’s comedy series The Inbetweeners.
Three hit series and a movie later, and Joe is now a national star. He still performs live alongside Jonny Sweet as The Jonny and Joe Show and is set to star in upcoming Channel 4 sitcom Fresh Meat alongside Jack Whitehall. He’s currently dating Hollyoaks and Inbetweeners star Hannah Tointon and is writing a First World War sitcom for Channel 4, Chickens, along with his two House of Windsor buddies.
