Biography
Growing up in Leigh-on-Sea, Eastenders star Kara got into acting at school, taking speech and drama lessons. She was soon landing TV roles while still at school and made her first appearance on the box as an Eastenders extra at age 11.
Kara won recurring roles in the first series of Teachers on Channel 4 and Sky’s WAG-drama Dream Team before hitting the big time in 2005, landing the part of feisty Dawn Swann in everybody’s favourite cocker-nee drama Eastenders. Kara became a firm favourite with the lads mags before leaving the show in 2009.
Since the show, she’s gone on to wow the nation with her fancy footwork, winning 2010’s Strictly Come Dancing. She’s also taken to the stage with the lead role of Eliza Doolittle in the West End production of Pygmalion and presented a BBC documentary about dyslexia, from which she suffers.
A pin-up after he Eastenders work, Kara is also now the new face (and body) of ASDA George underwear. Victoria’s Secret it ain’t, but you’ve got to start somewhere.
After dating Busted singer James Bourne while still at school, she’s dated not one but two of her Eastenders co-stars - James Alexandrou and Joe Swash. From January 2011, Kara has been in a relationship with her Strictly Come Dancing partner Artem Chigvintsev.
