Kate was poached by the BBC and was chosen to join the presenting team of their new BBC News 24 channel in 1997. She made her first appearance on breakfast TV the following year hosting Sky’s Sunrise. In 2000 she joined fellow early morning blondes Penny Smith and Fiona Phillips in co-presenting the ITV breakfast show GMTV, and took the top job from Fiona when she resigned in 2008.
As well as her GMTV sofa-sitting duties, Kate lasted seven weeks on the fifth series of Strictly Come Dancing, has appeared on just about every panel show under the sun, and has written columns for Now and New magazines as well as the Observer newspaper. Kate is also the Friday presenter of Lorraine on ITV and is one of the new hosts of GMTV’s replacement Daybreak.
